PLMJ – Law Firm is back on the shortlist in the Chambers Europe Awards for Excellence 2014

10/03/2014
PLMJ is back on the shortlist for the award for Best Portuguese Firm of the Year from the prestigious international directory, Chambers & Partners. The Chambers Europe Awards for Excellence recognise excellence in legal services and, over the last five years, PLMJ has twice been named best Portuguese firm and it is once again in the race for this award. The Chambers Europe Awards evaluate the work of the lawyers and the operations that marked the previous year and, as a result, they are an important point of reference for those in the market for legal services. However, these awards also value strategic vision and capacity to innovate in client service and are a public and international recognition of the work of the firm. To win its place on the shortlist for 2014, PLMJ put forward a high number of operations handled by the firm as it continues to be the first choice for major State and companies and Portuguese and international private companies. These companies rely on PLMJ to defend their interests and support them in their growth and expansion. One highlight of last year was PLMJ's work on the largest ever M&A operation carried out in Portugal - the merger between ZON and Optimus. PLMJ also advised on the privatisation of CTT and handled major restructuring and insolvency cases. The form also advised on new real estate projects, in particular, with the arrival of many luxury brands in Avenida da Liberdade, as well as assisting clients in the process to acquire a Golden Visa. Also helping PLMJ to its place on the shortlist was its active participation in a number of important Portuguese and international arbitration cases. The firm was also chosen to advise the state on the restructuring of the transport company's Metro de Lisboa and Carris, among many other operations in different areas handled by lawyers in Portugal, Angola and Mozambique. PLMJ managing partner, Manuel Santos Vitor, considers that the firm's return to the Chambers shortlist for the award for Best Portuguese Firm “is well-deserved recognition of the work of more than 200 PLMJ lawyers in advising on many of the main operations and deals that occurred in Portugal in 2013 as well as many relevant matters in other countries. The same can be said of our innumerable mandates to handle court and arbitration proceedings and we now have an unparalleled track record in this area”. Manuel Santos Vitor also explained that “this is the result of the strategy we defined to respond to an extremely tough economic climate, in order for us to continue to build long-lasting partnerships with our clients and to exceed their expectations. 2013 was, in fact, an exceptional year, but we are aware of the obstacles that the current situation has imposed and, for this reason, we would like to share this recognition with our clients and partners and thank them for the trust they place in PLMJ every day in Portugal and in many other countries, particularly those in PLMJ International Legal Network”.
