PLMJ – Law Firm is pleased to announce its newly created Swiss Desk. This is a multidisciplinary team dedicated to assisting private clients from Portuguese-speaking countries and to supporting companies in Switzerland with interests in these countries. The team will be coordinated by PLMJ partner, Nuno Cunha Barnabé.
In establishing this presence, PLMJ has taken another important step in implementing the internationalisation strategy it defined in 2010 and, in doing so, it has created a bridge between Switzerland and Brazil, Luanda, Maputo and Macao. Switzerland is currently the principal European financial centre outside the European Union and it enjoys an impressive international reputation in the market for management of the assets of private clients and families. Conversely, it is an economy that is a strong exporter and the base for the traditional operations of a considerable number of multinational companies from Europe and the United States.

Nuno Cunha Barnabé, who was recently admitted in Vaud as a lawyer authorised to practice in Switzerland, has a solid track record of providing cross-border legal support involving this market and, since 2013, he has been both a member of the firm’s private client team and a partner in PLMJ's tax practice. The Swiss Desk team is highly skilled in providing legal support to clients of the firm and to those with a potential interest in understanding the Swiss legal system. It is also perfectly placed to provide legal support for the cross-border implementation of their decisions in the areas of private wealth, private equity, residence, immigration and nationality, corporate restructuring, real estate, arts and sports
The Swiss Desk is now yet another link in the chain of international expertise provided by PLMJ's lawyers as members of PLMJ International Legal Network. This enables the lawyers of the Swiss Desk to benefit from the know-how of an international network with a presence in most countries where Portuguese is the official language, including Angola, Mozambique, Macao, Brazil and East Timor.

For the team coordinator, Nuno Cunha Barnabé, this “decision came about naturally. It is a result of the experience gained from the significant work we have been doing with Switzerland for almost a decade. The advantages for our clients are clear. For the Portuguese, we want to progressively establish ourselves as the team of choice to provide them with the local support they need. We are also focused on Swiss clients and foreigners in Switzerland. For them, we want to provide a more effective interface with Portugal and the Portuguese-speaking countries where PLMJ International Legal Network has a presence, in line with the firm’s internationalisation strategy”.
