As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, PLMJ has sponsored the second edition of the GC Powerlist Iberia 2017 - an international publication that recognises the 100 most influential and innovative teams of in-house lawyers on the Iberian Peninsula.

The British directory The Legal 500 revealed the list of the great companies that won this award in Portugal at a ceremony at the restaurant Eleven in Lisbon. The ceremony was attended by more than 80 in-house lawyers from the leading companies operating in Portugal, and the winning companies were:

CTT; IKEA; Jerónimo Martins; CEPSA; Galp Energia; Repsol; Bankinter; CGD; Citibank; Millennium BCP; Novo Banco; Sociedade Interbancária de Serviços; Zurich Portugal; Danone; Unicer; Grupo José de Mello Saúde; Luz Saúde; Merck Sharp & Dohme; Novartis Farma; Grupo Trofa Saúde; Andrade Gutierrez; EFACEC; GESTMIN; Grupo PROCME; SONAE – Employment; Thales Portugal; Grupo Visabeira; Google; Huawei Techonologies; Indra Sistemas; Microsoft; Novabase; Corticeira Amorim; SECIL; The Navigator Company; Portugal Telecom; Vodafone; ANA; TAP Portugal; EDP and REN.

Paulo Farinha Alves, a partner and member of the PLMJ board, highlighted the fact that 292 PLMJ lawyers work on a daily basis in partnership with in-house legal teams. He also pointed out that the firm is aware "what a crucial role general counsel and their in-house teams play in anticipating problems, managing risks and identifying the most robust legal solutions that best protect the interests of their companies".

Besides recognising the work of in-house lawyers, the event also provided an opportunity for networking and for discussion of the role of in-house legal teams in building the future of companies.

The GC Powerlist Iberia 2017 is published by The Legal 500, a leading international name in research and analysis of the business law sector, which covers both in-house teams and leading full-service law firms like PLMJ.

The GC Powerlist winners are chosen on the basis of detailed research by The Legal 500 to select the most deserving in-house teams. Besides recognising teams in Europe, there are also additions for Mexico, Argentina, China and Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, Africa, Central America and India.
