China is increasingly the destination of choice for investors from across the globe and Chinese companies and are becoming important investors in Portuguese-speaking countries. With an eye on the state of the world economy and anticipating trends, PLMJ has recently increased its international presence by entering into a partnership agreement with Dacheng Law Offices, the largest Chinese law firm with around 1900 employees, both lawyers and supports staff, who are spread across 28 local offices covering the whole of China and focusing on areas with the greatest potential for investment such as Beijing, Shanghai and Hong-Kong. The excellence and quality of Dacheng Law Offices have been recognised on innumerable occasions with awards and honours both from the Chinese government and from the best respected legal directories. Dacheng has a strong international presence built around its own offices and a large number of strategic alliances throughout the world with the offices in Sydney, Washington D.C. and Singapore best illustrating the firm’s reach. This network enables Dacheng to provide support for its clients wherever they go, while ensuring the same levels of specialisation of the teams and the same level of service, a philosophy they share with PLMJ. Dacheng Law Offices is part of PLMJ International Legal Network, a multilateral organisation that seeks to serve investors in China who come from the community of Portuguese-speaking countries but also to attract Portuguese investment, not only for Portugal but also for Portuguese-speaking countries. To better serve these clients, PLMJ has a China Desk, that operates out of Dacheng’s head office in Beijing where PLMJ has a resident senior associate, Rita Assis Ferreira, who provides services for Portuguese-speaking investors in China and provides all the support guidance for large scale Chinese investors who are represented by PLMJ International Legal Network, in Portugal or in Africa. PLMJ also has a Chinese senior assistant, Lin Man, who is responsible for coordinating China Desk clients in Portugal. With this partnership, PLMJ has enlarged its geographic area of activity and strengthened its position as a partner in business for international clients and investors.
