The large majority of PLMJ Lawyers, including Partners, consist of former Trainees. PLMJ has always adopted the principle to welcome Lawyers that it acknowledges have a high potentiality and a large capacity to work as a team, or who are well known specialists in their respective fields of law. The growth of PLMJ has essentially been organic, through a recruitment policy based on a careful selection and continuous training of Trainees. Many of the Lawyers who presently work in PLMJ have joined this Law Firm due to the acknowledgement of solid legal training or professional experience directed at specialised fields of law. PLMJ considers and pursues that the best talents are attracted to a competitive professional project, alluring (in a professional and personal aspect), compensating, individually motivating and with effective stability conditions at medium and long term. The career progression is strictly based on merit and also requires a minimum seniority in each stage. The progression model has the normal stages: Trainee, Associate, Senior Associate, Partner and Senior Partner. All Lawyers of PLMJ are subject to regular evaluation. The evaluation of Associates, Senior Associates, Partners and Senior Partners is based on sets of established criteria, partially different among themselves, in light of which, according to the rules of the Law Firm, the professional requirements and expectations of the Clients are demandable from each of those stages. Character, accuracy, will and work capacity, availability, team spirit, vision of the future, good relationship with others, capacity to identify problems, analyse them and obtain quick solutions are several professional and moral values that PLMJ highly appreciates and demands for the career progression in this Law Firm. On the other hand, PLMJ offers to all its Lawyers (including Trainees) a learning platform and experience in all the main fields of law, the possibility to be called to work with a team of Lawyers who are leading professionals in their respective areas of law and the challenge to be in contact with matters of the highest level, not only due to the importance of the intervening parties but also due to the complexity of the subjects involved. PLMJ furthermore has an internal training programme intended for all its members. This programme includes training sessions not only concentrated on legislative innovations that arise but also on real cases. PLMJ presently actively promotes the permanent training of its members outside the Law Firm, through the participation in courses and conference cycles in Portugal and abroad, as well as the interchange of Lawyers with the offices in Brazil, Macao and Angola with which PLMJ has joint-ventures. Every year PLMJ admits a variable number of recently Law degree Graduates who wish to inscribe themselves in the law training course provided for by the Portuguese Bar Association. As a rule there is only an annual recruitment, which starts during the first quarter of each civil year, being all candidates invited to remit the firm their curricula as early as possible .
