PLMJ Network was the winner of three awards at the African Legal Awards last Friday in Johannesburg. TTA (Mozambique) was recognised in the areas of Transportation and M&A, and GLA (Angola) in the area of Property and Construction.

Thanks to the legal work done by PLMJ Network on key projects of the greatest importance in the African market, the TTA team received two honourable mentions in the categories of Transportation and M&A (in projects coordinated by Dentons and Norton Rose, respectively). In turn, GLA team received an honourable mention in the category of Property and Construction (in a project coordinated by ENS - Edwards Nathan Sonnenbergs).

The African Legal Awards are organised by the prestigious British publication, Legal Week and by Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa. The awards recognise the work of major international firms and leading independent firms in Africa.

This is the fifth consecutive year in which the members of PLMJ Network have achieved nominations and accolades in these awards. The excellent work done in 2016 by GLA and TTA in Angola and Mozambique led the two firms to be shortlisted in 13 categories.

TTA was shortlisted for African Law Firm of the Year - Small Practice, M&A Team of the Year, Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team of the Year, “Employment Law Team of the Year, Property and Construction Team of the Year and Transportation and Infrastructure Team of the Year. It was Also shortlisted for the CSR, Diversity, Transformation and Economic Empowerment Award.

According to Tomás Timbane, the partner who heads TTA “it is a great source of pride to receive honourable mentions and nominations at the African Legal Awards, which recognise the work we have been doing. For Mozambique in general and investors in particular, having a local firm that is recognised every year is a sign that we are following the right path and, for this reason, the country and our clients can continue to place their trust in us.”

GLA was shortlisted for the African Law Firm of the Year - Small Practice award, and in the categories of Banking, Finance and Restructuring Team of the Year, Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team of the Year, “Employment Law Team of the Year, “Property and Construction Team of the Year and Transportation and Infrastructure Team of the Year.

For Bruno Xavier de Pina, the partner who heads the Angola Desk “having been nominated once again in so many categories represents international recognition of our work, and this is reflected in the trust our clients continue to place in us. Although it is not “the” purpose of our work, it is obviously a great source of motivation for the lawyers and staff at the firm. It also brings greater responsibility, but one we are very happy to take on.”
