PLMJ once again leads the Portuguese market according to Legal 500, one of the best recognised international directories, and it has achieved top recommendations in all the practice areas analysed. In this year’s edition, the highlight is PLMJ’s recommendation as a Top-Tier Firm in 12 practice areas. These include Public Law, which has risen to Tier 1, and Fraud and White-collar Crime, which enters the ranking directly in Tier 1.

There is also international recognition for the quality service provided both in Angola (GLA), and in Mozambique (GLM), which are both ranked in Tier 2 (Mozambique and Angola – Foreign Firms) and in Tier 3 (Angola – Local Firms). It is remarkable that these Angolan and Mozambique and lawyers have achieved recognition from the market in these international rankings in just 6 short years.

Nine PLMJ partners have also been recognised by the market as ‘Leading Lawyers” in their areas of specialisation. They are:

  • José Miguel Júdice, Litigation
  • Luís Sáragga Leal, Corporate/M&A
  • Nuno Líbano Monteiro, Restructuring and Insolvency, and Litigation
  • Abel Mesquita, Employment
  • Tiago Cortes, Employment
  • Tomás Pessanha, Oporto
  • Manuel Cavaleiro Brandão, Oporto
  • Pedro Sáragga Leal, Real Estate
  • Luís Pais Antunes, TMT (Telecommunications, Media and Technology)

Once again, we believe the results just published, relating to 2015, confirm PLMJ’s position as a full-service law firm that is international in character, with a vocation to provide first-class, added value business law services. The results also confirm the consistency of the services provided by every practice area and by PLMJ’s more than 270 lawyers.

PLMJ has achieved Tier 1 ranking in 12 practice areas, which is an increase on the 10 Tier 1 rankings it achieved last year. The Tier 1 practice areas are: Corporate/M&A, Litigation, Intellectual Property, Tax, Capital Markets, Real Estate, European Union and Competition Law, Insolvency and Restructuring, Employment, Public Law and Criminal Law. The Legal 500 also ranks PLMJ’s Oporto office in Tier 1.

The Legal 500 is seen as the second most important directory in the legal services market, behind Chambers Europe, whose results will be published on 22 April.
