PLMJ appears in Le Figaro’s economy supplement, The Business Report

22/01/2019

PLMJ managing partner Luis Pais Antunes and Nuno Cunha Barnabé, a partner from PLMJ Tax, were recently interviewed by the economy supplement of the French newspaper Le Figaro, The Business Report. Addressing the World Economic Forum, this supplement analysed the factors that have contributed to the recovery of the Portuguese economy and the incentives for foreign investment that Portugal has to offer.

Luis Pais Antunes points out that "we are witnessing good performance, because Europe is too. We have an unemployment rate of 6.9%, below the 17% registered in 2012-2013. The sustainability of this recovery largely depends, therefore, of the economic scenario that Europe has been experiencing, as well as on the evolution of international trade. The key factor that could have an impact on our recovery is political stability".

On the specific measures concerning foreign investment in Portugal and when it comes to companies, Nuno Cunha Barnabé says, "We have no limitation whatsoever on foreign investment and certainly none based on nationality. The only limitation we have is the same that is seen in every EU country, which includes strategic sectors, such as energy, aviation, and banking and insurance, which may have limitations in terms of ownership by non-European nationals, but that’s the only limitation".

Regarding the investment sectors with the greatest potential for foreign investors, we can say highlight "technological innovation and development. There are a lot of Portuguese and non-Portuguese companies which are already doing great work in that area. There are very good examples of Portuguese technology capital companies that have become worldwide success stories", adds Nuno Cunha Barnabas.

Currently, the circulation of the Business Report/Le Figaro exceeds 300,000 copies.
