PLMJ assists Canadian Akanda Corp with the acquisition of Holigen

PLMJ assisted the Canadian company Akanda Corp with its acquisition of Holigen, the company that owns the Portuguese company RPK Biopharma, in a transaction worth approximately EUR 30 million.

RPK owns a 7600 m2 indoor cannabis cultivation facility in Sintra. It also owns an outdoor facility of almost 40 hectares in the Alentejo municipality of Aljustrel, with an outdoor production capacity of around 100 tonnes of cannabis for medicinal purposes.

This multidisciplinary operation was led by Eduardo Nogueira Pinto, the partner who heads the Healthcare, Life Sciences and Pharmaceuticals practice, and Bárbara Godinho Correia, a Corporate M&A partner.

Rita Albuquerque, Ana Nunes Teixeira, Tomás Cardoso e Cunha, Corporate M&A associates, and Ricardo Rocha, an associate in the Healthcare, Life Sciences and Pharmaceuticals practice also helped coordinate the matter.

The team also included André Abrantes, Pedro Roque Coelho, associates from the Banking and Finance and Capital Markets practices, Filipa Vicente Silva, an associate from the Real Estate and Tourism practice, Ana Nunes da Silva, an associate from the Public Law practice, Margarida Ferraz de Oliveira, an associate from the Dispute Resolution practice, Roberto Carlos Rolo, an associate from the Employment and Labour practice, and trainee lawyers Inês Delgado Martins, Bartolomeu Soares de Oliveira, Rita Antunes da Cunha and Diogo Madeira Canário.
