PLMJ takes part in First CPLP Market Economic Conference

PLMJ is taking part in the First CPLP Market Economic Conference. The CPLP is the Community of Portuguese Language Countries and the conference takes place on 9 and 10 May in Maputo, Mozambique. Sónia Martins Reis, an associate from the PLMJ Angola Desk, and Tomás Timbane and Neusa Paruque Paulo, TTA partner and associate, respectively, will join the panels on the CPLP Arbitration Tribunal, Double Taxation Agreements and Investment Protection.

Organised by the CPLP's Business Confederation (CE-CPLP), the conference is sponsored by the CPLP and, for the first time, it will address market characterisation and the creation of work groups for: mobility and the question of visas; professional recognition and mobility, involving the professional organisations from various countries; harmonisation of tax relations between countries; incorporation of foreign capital companies; an arbitration centre, CPLP conciliation and mediation, and a manual of ethics and compliance for companies and energy in the CPLP.

PLMJ's Sónia Martins Reis explains that: "PLMJ's participation in the First CPLP Market Economic Conference will enable us to spotlight PLMJ's expertise in international taxation in the Portuguese-speaking world has a law firm that is experienced in advising on-board operations between Portugal and the other CPLP member countries. There is no doubt it will be an excellent opportunity to debate the work already done by the CPLP double taxation agreements and investment protection groups of which PLMJ is a member."
