A Future Vision

Pedro Barosa presents workshop at Universidade Católica Portuguesa

Pedro Barosa, a senior associate from PLMJ Criminal Litigation, White Collar Defence and Compliance, will be at the Faculty of Law of Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FDUCP) to present a workshop entitled "Emotional Intelligence for Success in the Legal Profession".

This is an initiative by the FDUCP careers office and is open to degree and master's students from the University, subject to prior registration.

The workshop will address various topics relating to the role of emotional intelligence (EI) in the legal profession. It will cover the importance of emotions and characteristics inherent to EI – the ability to create empathy, the power of persuasion, and the use of body language – work interviews and the relevance of EI (social skills) in the market and in a legal career.

Pedro Barosa recently published his thesis entitled "The Significance of Emotional Intelligence to Trial Lawyers". This work was based on scientific materials and in it, the author establishes the link between emotional intelligence in a court context with "standard" for "traditional" intelligence.

"Emotional intelligence is a crucial tool for lawyers in a wide range of areas including in relationships with clients and in court in interacting with other lawyers, witnesses and judges. addressing this topic with the students of FDUCP, of which I am an alumnus, is something I'm very enthusiastic about and, in my opinion, it is an important step by the university", says Pedro Barosa.

The workshop is taking place on 13 March and around 100 participants have registered within 24 hours of the workshop being announced.
