PLMJ sponsors Web Summit for the third consecutive year

05/11/2018

For the third consecutive year, PLMJ is closely involved in the Web Summit, which is the world’s largest tech event. The firm is taking part in numerous pre- and post-event initiatives.

On 5 November, PLMJ is once again sponsoring the Venture Day, which will take place at Convento do Beato. On this occasion, a number of PLMJ lawyers will be meeting with investors, business angels and private equity funds from around the world.

In addition, PLMJ will be part of the jury in a highly distinctive programme: the Pitch, which is a competition between startups that brings together the most significant "early stage startups." The best startups will be selected to make their presentations before a prestigious jury that will include PLMJ lawyers Duarte Schmidt Lino, the partner who heads PLMJ Private Equity and Daniel Reis, the partner who heads PLMJ TMT. The finalists will have the opportunity to fight it out for first place on the Web Summit 2018 stage.

PLMJ is also acting as the expert partner for the legal area in the ‘Mentor Hours’. All those interested in getting advice from PLMJ’s experienced team will have the opportunity to do so between 6 and 8 November, at FIL. The Mentor Hours are 20-minute meetings between lawyers and startups that are scheduled in advance. In the Mentor Hours, lawyer Thomas Almeida Ribeiro, a senior associate from PLMJ Private Equity, will pass on his know-how.

The main objective is to prepare entrepreneurs, investors and companies to launch their business with the benefit of practical advice on how to approach doing business in Portugal. PLMJ will provide advice on intellectual property, or more precisely, on trademarks and patents. In essence, this is a great opportunity to learn everything you need to know to succeed in setting up your business in Portugal, from immigration and visas, to incorporating a company, to dealing with employment/labour laws.

The Web Summit is the world’s leading event of its kind and it creates an opportunity to bring startups and tech companies together with international investors who think and create the future.
