About Rui

Rui is a senior associate in the Public Law practice. With almost 10 years of experience, he has focussed on advising on the acquisition, financing and implementation of projects and infrastructures, with a particular emphasis on energy and natural resources. He also advises leading Portuguese and international players in the energy industry, in particular on contractual, regulatory, administrative and financing issues.

In the area of energy, Rui has focused on advising Portuguese and foreign companies on their investment projects in Portugal or in other countries of the Portuguese-speaking world. He has acquired experience in the renewable energy, renewable gas, oil and gas, and electric mobility sectors. He has also represented clients in judicial and arbitral resolution of disputes in the areas of energy and regulation.

Rui earned his law degree from Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto and has a master’s in legal sciences (civil law) from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon. He completed a postgraduate course in M&A and corporate litigation at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and also attended an intensive specialisation course in investment funds at the same faculty. Rui took a postgraduate course in energy law at the Faculty of Law of Universidade Católica Portuguesa and has attended various intensive focusing on matters such as power purchase agreements (Redcliffe Training) and renewable energy law (Nova School of Law).
