About Filipa

Filipa is of counsel in the Arbitration practice. With 20 years’ experience, she regularly acts as a lawyer and arbitrator in arbitration cases.

Filipa has worked in more than 30 arbitrations, most of them international, in both institutional (e.g. ICC, LCIA, ICSID, Corte de Arbitraje de Madrid and OHADA) and ad hoc proceedings. Her cases have involved jurisdictions in Europe, Africa and Latin America, and have been conducted in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish. Filipa’s cases have included a variety of sectors including construction, advertising, transport, cement, banking, and insurance. As arbitrator specifically, Filipa has acted in domestic and international cases (pursuant inter alia to the ICC and Corte de Arbitraje de Madrid rules), both in one and three-member tribunals.

Prior to devoting herself exclusively to arbitration, Filipa worked as a construction lawyer, an area in which she has extensive experience. Filipa has assisted clients in the negotiations, drafting and performance of different types of contracts as well as in pre-dispute and dispute stages in national and international projects.

Filipa is a member of the boards of the Arbitration Centre of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and of the Portuguese chapter of Club Español del Arbitration (CEA). She is also co-head of the women’s mentoring programme, CEA Mujeres, and a member of the arbitration practice committee and secretary of the board of the general meeting of the Portuguese Arbitration Association (APA).

Filipa has a law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and is a regular guest lecturer on postgraduate and master's courses, as well as a frequent speaker at conferences on arbitration.
