About Rui

Rui is of counsel in the Arbitration practice and has around 18 years’ experience as a lawyer. He focuses on Portuguese and international arbitrations, and on civil and commercial litigation.

Rui has a law degree from the Faculty of Law of Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon, and a master's and a PhD in legal sciences from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon.

Since 2015, he has been an assistant lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, where he was also a guest lecturer (2008-2015), and monitor (2007-2008).

Rui was an assistant to the Minister of the Presidency and of Parliamentary Affairs and to the Secretary of State for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, in the 19th Constitutional Government (2011-2013 and 2014-2015).

He is the editor for the law of evidence of a journal on competition and regulation, a member of the editorial committee of the Anatomy of Crime Review, and an associate of the Portuguese Arbitration Association, the Association of Catholic Lawyers and the Portuguese Association of Theory of Law, Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy, among others.

Rui won scholarships at the Foundation for Science and Technology - FCT (2013-2014 and 2010-2011).
