Buzz Legal brings law and technology together at PLMJ

23/02/2024

Buzz Legal is a PLMJ initiative created to bring together projects to develop technological solutions specifically aimed at providing legal support.

Drawing on the firm's experience in adopting and developing digital tools in-house, Buzz Legal is the practical embodiment of PLMJ's range of technology-driven legal advice, services and products that enable it to respond to a range of client needs.
The Buzz Legal team is multidisciplinary and includes PLMJ lawyers, the PLMJ Projects and Innovation team and designers, as well as highly specialised technology partners.

Bruno Ferreira, managing partner of PLMJ: "Firstly, it's about actively promoting a culture of agility and innovation, which is more difficult to maintain in organisations of our size. There is no room for error in purely legal solutions, but the evolution of the organisation and the way we work depends on our ability to take advantage of the current technological revolution. We wanted to create a project where we could open up space for processes of ideation, trial and error, prototyping, testing and, if successful, better serve our clients in areas where, being less traditional, we have a lot of accumulated and internally tested experience".

Inês Setil, Director of Projects and Innovation at PLMJ: "What we do is apply technology to work and business processes and improve them. This makes life easier for those who work in or interact with these processes, brings added value information, creates automation and reduces the risk of human error. At PLMJ, we were excited early on about the opportunities presented by various technologies - including, of course, AI. We started exploring solutions internally, creating prototypes and testing them internally. Once they were validated, we shared them with our clients, who became co-creators of the tools. There are many similarities and complementarities between the work we do for our clients and the challenges faced by in-house legal teams. We're identifying common problems and solving them together."
