PLMJ Foundation publishes 19th annual collection ‘ACERVO – 5 Decades of Contemporary Art’

This book presents a selection from the PLMJ Foundation collection by guest curator, João Silvério. ACERVO also contains  an overview of Portuguese art history from the last 50 years by historian Isabel Nogueira and an introduction by Cristina Tavares.

The book marks the current Year of European Cultural Heritage and the PLMJ Foundation is involved in a number of initiatives by the Portuguese Ministry of Culture.

In the words of Cristina Tavares, “PLMJ-Advogados, SP, RL has been in existence for 50 years (1967) and, through the Foundation it set up in 2001, the has made a place for itself as a leading collector of Portuguese art focusing on the exhibition, study and preservation of its collection of contemporary art.”

Isabel Nogueira points out that “art is made for this and this it what it is ultimately for: to be seen and enjoyed. The PLMJ Foundation collection occupies a significant place in this context and in this important dynamic”.

João Silvério writes that “this is the panorama from the second decade of this century we are living in, at a time when the Foundation and the law firm that created it are going to renew their place in the city of Lisbon. They will have a new programme to share  their collection and give continuity to the works of art a portrayed on these pages (…). This will undoubtedly prolong the notion of heritage, of memory and of the future in contemporary art which is expressed in a universal language and in the Portuguese language.”
