PLMJ Foundation supports Portuguese representation at the 2022 Venice Biennale

12/04/2022

The PLMJ Foundation is supporting the Portuguese representation at the 2022 Venice Biennale by sponsoring the artist Pedro Neves Marques, one of the youngest artists selected for the Official Representation of Portugal at the 2022 Venice Biennale, and the duo of curators João Mourão and Luis Silva.

The Official Portuguese Representation at the 59th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia 2022 begins with the pre-inauguration on 22 April at Palazzo Franchetti. There will be a presentation of Vampires in Space, a project by the artist, filmmaker and writer Pedro Neves Marques. Curated by João Mourão and Luís Silva, the work interacts with The Milk of Dreams by Leonora Carrington. This project is proposed by the curator of the Biennale Arte 2022, Cecilia Alemani, and it focuses on the "representation of bodies and their metamorphoses, the relationship between individuals and technologies, and the connection between bodies and the Earth".

Pedro Neves Marques' work has enjoyed wide international recognition. Here, it is represented by one of the most important European contemporary art galleries, the Umberto di Marino Gallery in Naples. The project for the Venice Biennale exhibition addresses significant current issues, including "ecology and gender issues, passing through a critique of the history of the normalisation of bodies (whether human, non-human, animal or plant) and a deep understanding of the role of technology in the construction of these processes."
