PLMJ strengthens its capital markets team with the arrival of the news partner Gonçalo dos Reis Martins

PLMJ – Law Firm is pleased to announce that Gonçalo dos Reis Martins has joined its capital markets team, which is headed by André Figueiredo. The capital markets team is part of PLMJ’s banking and finance team, which is coordinated by partners Hugo Rosa Ferreira, André Figueiredo and which also includes partner Bruno Ferreira. This team of 20 lawyers and now four partners has been involved in some of the most important operations that have taken place in Portugal over recent years. These include the sale of Barclays’ retail business in Portugal, the BES resolution action, advising senior creditors of Novo Banco, including Blackrock Pimco, and various debt issuances by PSI 20 companies and by the Portuguese Republic.

Gonçalo dos Reis Martins has more than 15 years’ proven experience advising some of the leading international investment banks, investment funds and major companies. He has worked with clients including StormHarbour, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Apollo, Capital Group, DBRS and Novo Banco on capital markets, financial services and banking matters. He has also worked on significant financial operations in Mozambique, representing Banco Comercial e de Investimentos and Standard Bank Moçambique.

 

Having earned his law degree in 2002, Gonçalo attended the 5th Master’s and Doctorate Programme of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He also has a postgraduate diploma in European Financial Regulation organised by the European Institute of Faculty of Law of Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Besides these academic achievements, he is the author of numerous articles on financial law issues for the specialist press. Gonçalo is dual qualified (since 2008, when he qualified as a solicitor with the Law Society of England and Wales). He has previously worked in the capital markets team at the investment bank Banif (Fixed Income Division), the legal department at Morgan Stanley, and the law firm Simmons & Simmons (Capital Markets) for a period of two years.

 

His track record and know-how in the area of banking and finance is recognised by his clients and peers, and he is featured in the leading international legal directories: “a solid lawyer for funds and a strategist for transactions” and “clients praise Gonçalo dos Reis Martins for his expertise, commitment and availability.
