PLMJ partners Girl MOVE, Northern Mozambique Leadership Academy and winner of the UNESCO 2021 prize

21/10/2021

PLMJ is supporting Girl Move by funding one of the Impact Teams and making an active contribution to the Sisterhood Circle | Impact Experience Project, in the context of the Law and Human Rights cluster. Girl MOVE, the Leadership Academy in Northern Mozambique, was awarded the UNESCO prize 2021 for the innovation and effectiveness of its methodology in promoting education and female leadership in Mozambique.

Girl MOVE Academy is a Leadership Academy in Nampula in Northern Mozambiqu. Its mission is to break the cycle of planned poverty in that Mozambican girls and women live in. It is doing this by empowering a new generation of Changemakers. The absence of female role models in all areas of society and in decision-making positions is a limiting factor for these girls. The Girl MOVE Academy's innovative mentoring methodology is internationally recognised by UNESCO and Ashoka, which through inter-generational mentoring circles (Sisterhood Circles) enhances female talent and leadership. This is a transformative movement that brings together young women of different ages and at different stages of development to inspire, support and transform each other. But it does not stop there. These Sisterhood Circles are expanding to the surrounding communities in Mozambique, and in 2021 they will reach the rest of the country with the first fully digital programme for young graduates.
