PLMJ is once again on the FT Innovative Lawyers shortlist

27/08/2021 , FT Innovative Lawyers

PLMJ is on the list of international law firms selected by the Financial Times for the FT Innovative Lawyers Awards Europe 2021.

PLMJ was chosen for its legal assistance to TAP in navigating the airline's crisis, which was aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic. The legal support PLMJ provided to the airline brought two challenges. The first involved access to state-guaranteed funding of €1.2 billion to ensure compliance with European Commission rules. The second involved support for TAP's private shareholder, Atlantic Gateway, in the sale of its 22.5% stake in the airline to the Portuguese State.

The transaction was handled by a multidisciplinary team with the participation of the Corporate M&A, Banking and Finance and EU and Competition Law practices. The matter was led by partner Diogo Perestrelo who is co-head of Corporate M&A and by the managing partner and co-head of Banking and Finance and Capital Markets, Bruno Ferreira.

Diogo Perestrelo: "The challenges facing TAP and its then private shareholder were demanding and complex. It was an operation that mobilised a multidisciplinary and extremely talented team and the results achieved on behalf of our client helped the company to navigate an unprecedented crisis.

For PLMJ, it is an enormous source of pride to once again be on a Financial Times' shortlist as this is a benchmark for innovation and quality. These are precisely two values that define PLMJ and make us especially well prepared to accompany our clients in their most complex challenges and in this way help to build a more resilient and prosperous national business fabric".

The day after the awards ceremony, which will once again take place online and is scheduled for 14 October, the Financial Times will also publish the 15th edition of the FT Innovative Lawyers Report. This is the most highly regarded ranking of the legal sector in Europe and it provides a unique analysis of the sector by evaluating the power of innovation of lawyers not only in their dealings with clients but also in managing their own operations.
