EXPORTS & INTERNATIONAL TRADE

PLMJ’s exports and international trade team provides legal support in international trade relationships and advises companies and trade associations on their international transactions. We also advises on the guidelines of international organisations and on the content of agreements between these organisations and their member states.

The team works in coordination across a range of areas of the law to provide tailored legal advice on goods, services and intellectual property in the following areas:

  • International organisations including the WTO and the European Union: international, regional and bilateral treaties and internal rules on imports and exports
  • Customs legislation: Tariffs, customs barriers, health checks, rules of origin, seizure of goods
  • Competition: Certification of products, trade defence (subsidies, trade barriers, anti-dumping procedures and unfair pricing practices)
  • International contracts: Sale and purchase, insurance and guarantee contracts and related documentation, contracts for the transport of goods, agency, distribution and franchising contracts
  • Payment guarantees: Hedging instruments (credit insurance and others) and payment in international transactions
  • Arbitration and debt recovery: International arbitration (commercial and civil), criminal proceedings and proceedings involving insolvency, tax and the application of laws
  • Tax advice: Tax planning for companies and individuals for investments in Portugal and abroad and repatriation of income to Portugal
  • Foreign investment: Investments in Portugal and abroad with the support of international partners
