Marta Costa speaks to Negócios about draft law authorising spouses to renounce their inheritance

Marta Costa, a manging associate from PLMJ International Projects who specialises in family law, has spoken to Jornal de Negócios about the Socialist Party's draft law that would allow couples to renounce in advance the inheritance they would otherwise receive upon the death of their spouse.

According to Jornal de Negócios, the draft law "deepens the separation between love and money in marriage and upon death by allowing couples to renounce the inheritance they would receive from the other".

Marta points out that "the Portuguese rules follow the tradition dominant in continental Europe where, to a greater or lesser extent, "a concept of great family protection prevails".
