PLMJ is supporting the GC Powerlist Iberia for the second consecutive year

08/06/2018

PLMJ is supporting the GC Powerlist Iberia for the second consecutive year. This is the third edition of the event at which this international publication recognises the 120 most influential and innovative legal directors on the Iberian Peninsula.

British directory The Legal 500 revealed the list of great companies recognised in Portugal at a ceremony that took place yesterday at the restaurant Eleven in Lisbon. The ceremony was attended by more than 50 in-house lawyers from the leading companies operating in the Portuguese market.

Ascendi Portugal; Galp Energia; EDP; Jerónimo Martins; Volkswagen Financial Services; Corticeira Amorim; Banco CTT and NovaBase, are just a few of the companies recognised on a list that covers 13 different industries. One of this year’s highlights is the fact that, among the 40 Portuguese lawyers recognised, more than half are women (21 of 40).

Ricardo Oliveira, a partner and member of the PLMJ board, pointed out that 280 PLMJ lawyers work on a daily basis in partnership with teams of in-house lawyers. As a result, they know "how essential the roles of general counsel and their teams are in anticipating problems, in managing risks and in identifying the most robust legal solutions that best protect the interests of the company". He went on to say that "we know your responsibilities and challenges have been increasing over recent years as a result of the digital transformation we are witnessing, which brings great advantages, but also new risks. We have moved from a pattern of reaction to a proactive pattern, and you, like us, have been able to give the best response to this change".

Besides honouring the lawyers, this event also provided an opportunity to network and discuss the role of in-house legal teams in building the future of the companies where they work.

The GC Powerlist Iberia 2018 is produced by The Legal 500, a renowned international publisher dedicated to researching and analysing the corporate law sector, both in-house teams and full-service law firms, like PLMJ.

Legal directors and internal teams are subject to a rigorous research process by The Legal 500 to select the most deserving winners. Different editions are issued for various countries and, besides those in Europe, they include Mexico, Argentina, China and Hong Kong, South-East Asia, Africa, Central America Central and India.
