PLMJ advises Martinhal Group on acquisition of the former Universidade Independente

PLMJ provided legal advice to the Martinhal Group on its acquisition of the land of the former Universidade Independente, in Avenida Marechal Gomes da Costa, close to Parque das Nações. The firm also advised on the project to construct a high quality international school.

With the support of the PLMJ team, led by Sara Blanco de Morais, a partner from PLMJ Planning, the Martinhal Group is focusing on a strategy of expansion and diversification in constructing an international school that will provide classes from Year 1 to Year 12, with a capacity for between 800 and 900 students. The school will open for the academic year 2019/2020.

For Sara Blanco de Morais: “This was an extremely challenging operation from a legal point of view, compared with the other projects in which PLMJ has been providing legal support to the Martinhal Group, which is a leading international brand . The operation involved the management of the acquisition of the land itself, and dealing with   all town and country planning matters.”

The team also included Manuel da Silva Gomes and Nuno Pimentel Gomes, senior associates from PLMJ Planning. This specialised PLMJ team has dealt with multiple projects over recent years involving town and country planning. These projects have been in both the public and private sectors, and they include the opening of the Martinhal Resort in Sagres, Martinhal Chiado and Martinhal at Quinta do Lago.
