PLMJ advises on major sugar refinery M&A transaction

According to the newspaper Jornal de Negócios, PLMJ advised the USA’s largest cane sugar refining group on the acquisition of international group Tate & Lyle’s business unit in Portugal.

The acquisition, which includes the purchase of assets such as the old Sores factory, involved an amount of around €244.6 million and is the first European acquisition by American Sugar.

PLMJ’s multidisciplinary that carried out this project was coordinated by equity partner and head of the firm’s Corporate and M& area, Manuel Santos Vitor. Other team members were equity partner, Ricardo Oliveira (competition) and partner Ana Teresa Pulido (Intellectual Property). Also joining the team from their respective areas of specialisation were senior associates Cláudia Varela (employment), Manuel Silva Gomes, (environment), Ana Oliveira Rocha (Corporate & M&A), Rita Assis Ferreira (litigation), Hugo Rosa Ferreira (banking and finance) and Francisco Lino Dias (real estate).
