Filipe Abreu, a senior associate from PLMJ Tax, has spoken to Diário de Notícias, Jornal de Notícias and Dinheiro Vivo, about the fact that local councils may ask tax offices to update the taxable value (Valor Patrimonial Tributário - VPT) of homes in their areas for the purposes of the annual municipal property tax (IMI). "The wording of the rule was not clear and there was a discussion as to whether not only the owner of the property could ask for an update. Now it has been made clear that local authorities can also make this request", explains Filipe Abreu.
