A Multidisciplinary Vision
ARBITRATION

PLMJ Arbitration is a core practice for PLMJ and PLMJ International Legal Network. Around 20 lawyers - including 8 partners and 5 different nationalities located in offices in Europe and Africa - currently work as lawyers or arbitrators.

The team is fully prepared to represent clients in arbitrations in five languages (Portuguese, English, Spanish, French and German) and the team has worked not only in Portugal but also in a number of other countries.

PLMJ is the only Portuguese law firm in which the arbitration team is independent from the litigation team and, of this team, 18 partners and other PLMJ lawyers have been appointed as arbitrators in domestic and international arbitrations involving public and private law and commercial or investment protection matters.

In a substantial number of the cases handled by PLMJ Arbitration there are no Portuguese parties, Portuguese is not the language of the arbitration and Portuguese law does not apply.

This truly international practice led to PLMJ being named one of the world's top 100 leading international arbitration law firms by the renowned Global Arbitration Review and it was the first Portuguese firm to appear in the list.

PLMJ Arbitration is coordinated by founding partner, José Miguel Júdice (named a ‘Star Individual’ by Chambers and ranked in Tier 1 by the other leading international directories), and the team also includes partners Pedro Metello de Nápoles, Manuel Cavaleiro Brandão, Tiago Pires Duarte and Tomás Timbane.
