The workshop on "Taxation in times of crisis" which was organised by PLMJ and the Portuguese Industrial Association - Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AIP-CCI), held in March in Lisbon, is featured in the latest AIP newsletter. The topics discussed at the workshop were mainly related to the tax changes under the state budget for 2012. The topics were presented by PLMJ partners João Magalhães Ramalho, Nuno Cunha Barnabé (from the tax practice) and João Maricoto Monteiro (from the criminal law practice) as well as by associates Joana Lança, Bernardo Morais Palmeiro, Maria Inês Assis and Salomé Corte Real (all from the tax practice). The article features statements by PLMJ partner João Magalhães Ramalho who, during the conference, argued that "many viable businesses are being suffocated due to the combination of tax increases, reduction in demand and the deleveraging of bank loans".
