20/08/2021

PLMJ assited Swedish company Eco Wave Power Global in obtaining a licence to build a pilot wave energy project in Porto and connect it to the grid.

The operation was handled by PLMJ lawyers Joana Brandão, a managing associate in the Public Law practice, and associate Rui Vasconcelos Pinto and trainee lawyer Hugo Aparício from the same team.

The licence was granted by the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) to the Portuguese subsidiary, EW Portugal to instal and connect a small production unit with a limit of 1 MW.

This project is the first phase of the 20 MW concession agreement signed with the Administração dos Portos do Douro, Leixões e Viana do Castelo (APDL) in April last year for the potential use of four sites owned and operated by APDL.

This is the first licence EW Portugal has applied for to set up its first wave energy station in the country.
