Joana is a partner in the Public Law practice and has 20 years' experience as a lawyer. She focuses on projects, infrastructure and concessions, particularly in the real estate and construction sectors.
She has advised Portuguese and foreign investors on the implementation of their projects. Her expertise includes negotiating, drafting and implementing project contracts, including project management, design, works, EPC, O&M, BOOT, PMC and supervision contracts. Joana also has extensive experience in preparing and negotiating contracts for power generation projects and the use of water resources, and has represented clients in major international urban infrastructure projects in various markets.
Joana advises on construction and urban regeneration projects, particularly in the residential, tourism, office and logistics sectors. She has also frequently advised on regulatory matters, including matters relating to geological resources.
She holds a law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto and a postgraduate degree in civil law – the law of obligations from Católica Porto School of Law.
In addition to her legal practice, Joana has experience as a lecturer. She has delivered numerous lectures and courses on subjects including public law and construction law. In particular, she has spoken on public procurement, public contracts, EPC contracts, construction contracts, FIDIC contractual models, the financial rebalancing of contracts, price revision mechanisms, errors and omissions, complementary works, and the resolution of consumer disputes in the energy sector.
Joana was a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto, taught on the postgraduate course in energy law at Católica Lisboa School of Law, and currently teaches on the postgraduate course in real estate law at the Private Law Research Centre of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon.
She has also published numerous articles in her areas of practice.
