Rute Alves’s LLM thesis approved with distinction at Queen Mary University of London

23/10/2013

Rute Alves, from PLMJ’s arbitration team, has seen her LLM thesis approved with distinction at Queen Mary University of London, one of the most prestigious universities for legal studies.
The thesis is entitled “The Interplay between the written witness statements and oral examination in international commercial arbitration” and its aim is to demonstrate that, even though they exist independently, these methods of presenting evidence are closely linked in international arbitration. The thesis also looks at how their relationship can contribute to increased efficiency in arbitral proceedings.
Rute Alves analysed the most common practices in international arbitration in which written depositions are generally followed by oral testimony and looked at how the different cultural backgrounds of arbitrators and lawyers can influence arbitral proceedings.
