João is a partner in the Banking and Finance practice. He has extensive experience on regulatory matters and advising clients from the banking and financial sectors for over 19 years. His clients also include listed companies, shareholders and investors.
João specializes in regulatory matters relating to asset management, markets, derivatives, custody and clearing, and regulation of financial services and listed companies, as well as on asset management firms and assistance to Family Offices.
He completed a postgraduate course in banking law at the Faculty of Law of Lisbon University and completed the Strategic Management in Banking Programme, at INSEAD.
Before joining PLMJ, João was a lawyer in the international regulatory policy department of the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM) and has served as an advisor to the Treasury Secretary of the Portuguese Government.
He teaches several classes in post-graduate courses at Lisbon University Law School (CIDP) and University of Coimbra Law School (Instituto Banca, Bolsa, Seguros).
