João is a partner in the Banking and Finance practice and has more than 19 years' experience.
He advises on regulatory matters in the banking and financial sector and also represents listed companies, shareholders and investors.
João specialises in regulatory matters relating to asset management, financial markets, derivatives, custody and clearing, financial services regulation and listed companies. He also advises asset management firms and family offices.
He completed a postgraduate course in banking law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and the Strategic Management in Banking Programme at INSEAD.
Before joining PLMJ, João was a lawyer in the International Regulatory Policy Department of the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM) and served as an adviser to the Secretary of State for the Treasury.
He teaches on various postgraduate courses at the Research Centre for Private Law of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (Instituto Banca, Bolsa e Seguros).
