Maria is a senior associate in the Dispute Resolution practice, where she specialises in banking and financial litigation and competition litigation.
She advises Portuguese and international clients in the banking and financial sector on disputes relating to the issuance and sale of financial instruments, the civil liability of directors and banking secrecy. She also advises public bodies on disputes arising from the issuance of debt and savings products. In the area of competition law, she is actively involved in some of the most significant private enforcement actions in Portugal.
In addition to her dispute resolution work, Maria regularly participates in multidisciplinary teams advising international clients on the acquisition of NPL portfolios. In these teams, she focuses on identifying procedural risks and defining procedural strategies for value recovery.
Maria holds a law degree from NOVA School of Law and a master's degree in litigation and arbitration from the same faculty. She is also a mediator and is included on the list of mediators maintained by the Directorate-General for Justice Policy.
Before joining PLMJ, Maria worked as a mediator at the National Centre for Consumer Conflicts Information and Arbitration.
