A Multidisciplinary Vision

EU and Competition Law

PLMJ is amongst the largest EU and competition law practices in Portugal. Our highly skilled team of multidisciplinary lawyers have excellent academic qualifications as well as solid legal backgrounds and professional experience in the context of EU and competition law.

The EU and competition practice is structured to provide a timely and targeted response to all questions raised by clients, regardless of how specific and complex the matter proves to be.

The team assists its clients on a regular basis in all matters of competition law, in particular in the areas of merger control, horizontal and vertical relationships, abuse of dominant position, antitrust litigation and state aid.
It also has broad experience in EU law matters relating to structural funds, the common agricultural policy and free movement of persons, goods, services and capital.

This practice area also advises its clients on individual restrictive trade practices, regulated by Decree-law 166/2013, of 27 December 2013, which covers application of discriminatory prices and trade terms, lack of transparency in price and trade term policies, sales below cost, refusal to sell goods and services and abusive trade practices.

The team represents its clients before the Portuguese Competition Authority and the European Commission, as well as the Portuguese and EU courts.
