Voluntary Carbon Market


Legislation to establish, organise and regulate a voluntary carbon market in Portugal has now come into force.
Among the various changes, it is worth noting that emissions that can be offset with carbon credits are not only residual emissions. Upstream, there is also a need to protect against the possible consequences of carbon sequestration reversals by creating a new insurance scheme.
PLMJ has focused on this issue and has summarised the key ideas of this new legislation in an Informatve Note on the New Voluntary Carbon Markets Law and another on the new insurance.
